Kevin Gashler

Kevin is an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic with a background in machining.  Kevin received his training at the Michigan Institute of Aeronautics (now MIAT) in 2000, and began working with John Solo in 2002.  He has been with Solo Aviation since it started offering maintenance services in 2004.  He is factory trained in Diamond Aircraft and is currently training to receive Inspector Authorization.

John Solo

John Solo has been in the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) and flight school business since 1975.  He is an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic with Inspector Authorization.  He flew his first solo flight at the age of 16 and earned his private pilot's license at 17, the youngest ages permitted to do so.  An A&P mechanic since 1977, John's reputation is well-established throughout Michigan and the surrounding states.  In the early 1980s, John was the Director of Maintenance for a scheduled airline.  From 1985-2000, he was the Vice President and co-owner of a local FBO.  In 1998, John founded Solo Aviation Inc. which offered limited flight services.  In 2004, Solo Aviation Inc. became a full-service FBO.  John is factory-trained on Cessna 100, 200, 300, and 400 Series aircraft, Lycoming reciprocating engines, Piper Navajos, and Aerostars.

Amanda Baker

Amanda got into the aviation community by crewing for hot air balloon teams every summer since a young age. After graduating from high school she began her airplane flight training at Jackson College and graduated with her Associate in 2016, majoring in Aviation Flight Technology. She is currently working on her Bachelor's at Siena Heights University. During her training, Amanda became a Line Crew-person at the Jackson College Flight Center/ Solo Aviation in 2014. She loves being around fellow aviation lovers.

Marc Dupree

Marc’s aviation experience began while working on the Solo Aviation line crew. Many of his aviation certificates and ratings were earned at Solo Aviation’s flight school while attending Eastern Michigan University for Accounting and Math. He has experience in a variety of general aviation aircraft including Piper, Cessna, Mooney, Beech, and Diamond aircraft. Marc is a corporate pilot on the Hawker 800 series and enjoys teaching, entrepreneurial business, and the outdoors.

Dr. Don Musinski

With over 10,000 hours, Don has been flying since 1974 and instructing since 1986.  "Dr. Don" holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Rochester and teaches Physics part-time at Henry Ford Community College.  He is the flight supervisor at Ann Arbor Flyers, the oldest flying club in Michigan, and is also building a Lancair 360, an experimental aircraft.  Don has been instructing at Solo Aviation since its founding in 2004.

Dave Schrader

In 2014 and 2008, Dave became the Michigan FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) member of the year.  He has more than 15 years of experience as an Aviation Safety Counselor and as an FAAS Team Representative.  Dave has logged over 4,000 hours of flight time.  Dave is a check pilot for the Civil Air Patrol and specializes in multi-engine instruction.  He has flown his twin-engine Seneca on a flight expedition through Canada, the Aleutian Islands and Alaska, as well as the Governor General's Cup Caribbean Air Challenge air rally.

Nick Demski

Nick currently serves as the Chief Pilot for a major manufacturing company based in southeast Michigan. He has his Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management along with a minor in Business. He started working for Solo Aviation in 2007 as a Line Crewman and continues to provide flight instruction. Nick holds multiple type ratings and has accrued several thousand flight hours using all types of equipment in all types of weather. Nick also enjoys spending time with his family and working with his hands, but he is most passionate about flying.

Cary Jaworski

Cary received his Airframe and Powerplant license in 1995 when he graduated from American Flight Technology Center.  He is factory trained on the Garret TPE331 and SMA Diesels.  Cary also has experience with 400-series Cessnas, turboprops, turbofans, and recently completed certification for service and maintenance on Rotax engines.

John Jansen

John received his Airframe and Powerplant license in 1973.  He repaired aircraft at the Ann Arbor Airport for several years before accepting a position at General Motors.  After retiring from GM, he returned back to Ann Arbor Airport to keep Solo Aviation's fleet in top shape.

Kerry Brown

Kerry is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner in Airplanes, Gliders, and Light Sport Aircraft.  He is an Airline Transport Pilot with type ratings in the DC-9, B-727, B-757, and B-767. Being rated for Airplane Multi-Engine Land, Single Engine Land & Sea, Rotorcraft-Helicopter, Glider, Lighter than Air-Balloon, and as a Flight Engineer, Kerry is a very talented man. Kerry loves giving flight and ground instruction in airplanes and gliders.  In addition, he has been flying since 1976 and has more than 20,000 flight hours.

Don Lee

Don has been flying since 1981. He obtained his Flight Instructor Certificate through Solo Aviation.  Don’s first flight in a light airplane was at the Ann Arbor Airport Open House in the early ‘70s.  His favorite aviation memory is flying into Sun 'n Fun in 2011 with his son.  He has been a member of the flying club Ann Arbor Flyers since 2007.  He participates in Angel Flight, Operation Good Cheer, and the "Cherokees to Oshkosh" mass arrival at AirVenture.  In addition,  Don has a seaplane rating. When he's not hanging around the airport, Don works as a software engineer.

Nick Mues

Nick has flown across the country, East to West and North to South, numerous times. He has logged over 9,500 hours.  Of that, over 8,500 hours are of flight instruction given and 1,000 hours are in high performance aircraft as well as various twins. For 10 years, he was the Chief Flight Instructor at the Mettetal Airport.  He has taught numerous ground schools.  Nick has a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science and is a software developer by trade.  He loves flying and loves teaching others even more.

Dale has been a pilot since 1975. He is a retired Air Traffic Controller with 26 years of experience in ATC procedures. This familiarity with airspace is a valuable reference for pilots, especially the ones working on instrument ratings.  He has an easy-going personality and a relaxed demeanor that makes it enjoyable for students to learn.  Dale works hard to simplify complex subjects into easy-to-understand concepts.  His extensive knowledge of procedures, airspace, regulations, and piloting skills can help anyone attain their dreams of becoming a pilot.

Will assists Solo Aviation with teaching ground school courses at Washtenaw Community College’s Continuing Education program.  He is an instrument-rated, commercial pilot who been flying since 1986.  In his opinion, the most interesting airports he has visited were: Saint John (CYSJ), Sherbrooke (CYSC), Toronto Island (CYTZ), St. Louis Lambert (KSTL), Meigs (KCGX), Midway (KMDW), San Angelo (KSJT), Tamiami (KTMB), and Detroit (KDTW).

Danette Bull

Danette started flying in 1989 in Fort Worth, Texas. After returning to Michigan in the late 90’s, she continued pursuing her aviation interests and  earned her instrument rating and a Powerplant Mechanic’s license. Danette began flying at Solo in 2013, where she completed her commercial license and CFI. Danette has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from Michigan Tech and worked as a metallurgical engineer for more than 20 years, but has long felt that her true calling is teaching. To pursue that goal, she earned a Master’s degree in education from U of M-D and made a career change into education. Currently, Danette teaches Physics full time at Northville High School and part time at Washtenaw Community College. Danette is excited to combine her passion for teaching and her love of flying to help students achieve their aviation goals.

Carol Callan

Carol is a retired FAA Aviation Safety Inspector.  She started her service with the FAA as an Airspace System Inspection Pilot in 1989, in which position she flew the flight inspection mission and developed instrument approach procedures.  From 1997 to 2014, she was FAA Safety Team Program Manager for Michigan.  During her career, Carol has worked as a flight instructor, cargo pilot, charter pilot, corporate pilot, and air ops inspector.  Carol has flown King Airs, 23 series Learjets, 400 series Cessnas, and is typed in the Hawker Jet, among others.  Carol was a co-founder of the Great Lakes International Aviation Conference, where she currently serves as the Speaker Coordinator.  In her spare time, Carol teaches infant self-rescue swimming. She sings with the University Musical Society Choral Union.

Bob began flying with Solo Aviation in 2008.  He is nearing completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Flight Technology from Eastern Michigan University. Bob is passionate about aviation and loves sharing the experience of flight with others. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, boating on the Great Lakes and spending time with his wife and two children. He is a Heavy Equipment Technician at the University of Michigan and is mechanically oriented. His highest goal is to provide an educational, safe and enjoyable flight experience.

Marie Zeffer

Marie has dreamed of becoming a pilot since her first small plane ride at the age of 7. Her dreams were dashed early in life when she was told her nearsightedness would close the door to her dream of becoming an airline pilot. After a business degree, years in the corporate world, and starting her own custom decorated apparel business, she decided it was time for the clouds. In 2013, with her three kids as late teenagers, she earned her private pilot license, and in 2016 earned her instrument rating. She loves being involved in anything aviation related and volunteers for many aviation organizations and events.  She is the Michigan 99’s Chapter Chair, the Michigan 99’s Airmarking Chair, the AOPA Airport Support Network volunteer for Willow Run Airport, and is a member of the Yankee Ladies, our local Women in Aviation Chapter.

Estelle has been flying in 2010 in California. She spent a whole year as a full time student getting her three licenses. In 2011, she went back to Taiwan and got hired by China Airlines. After a year, she decided to move back to the United States. She got her single engine commercial and CFI at Solo Aviation. Her goal is to help students as much as she can by using her experience. She is able to communicate in Mandarin.

Peter Greenfield

Peter started flying in high school, soloed at 16, and kept climbing from there. He has been a Flight Instructor since 1970. Besides being an aircraft owner and Glasair III builder (not quite done yet!), Peter has flown for a commuter airline, a large corporation, and retired from a major domestic/international airline. Peter has type ratings in CE-500, CV-580, DC-9, A320, and A330. After flying more than 27,000 accident-free hours over 50 years, he enjoys passing on some of his accumulated aeronautical wisdom to the next generation of pilots.

Mich was born in the Philippines and grew up in Ann Arbor. He was always around planes from traveling back and forth from the Philippines to Michigan every year so he thought why not fly the planes instead of getting a ride. Mich got his Private, Instrument and Commercial at Western Michigan University where he studied Aviation Flight Science. His goal for the future is to get rated in as many planes as possible and pursue his ATP.
